Dear Principals, DPs, APs and Board Chairs
Some of you may have had a taste of media attention with Covid-19 and got away reasonably unscathed. But is your school ready for those situations where you are the entire focus of a negative story where blame can be attached to someone? For example, parent complaints making the news, bullying allegations, injury or death to students or problems on the school camp. I could go on.
The Seminar
This Seminar will show you how to be prepared for such situations and how to handle them. For example, it will look at communication traps to avoid with media and messages you send to your parents. It will also look at how to deal with media approaches (including reporters arriving at school unannounced). Lots of school leaders are unprepared for this and don't realise it until they have a group of reporters in reception demanding to speak to them.
Who is it for?
While lots of our events have been attended by principals (particularly media interview training workshops), this one is equally focused on Board Chairs, DPs and APs. That's because they are often better placed to lead the communication response to issues or crises as the principal will be focused on multiple areas. The principal may be the spokesperson, (or the Board Chair) but there are many other things that need to be prepared and taken care of on crisis day and these are better handled by a DP or AP. The Seminar is also ideal for Aspiring Principals.
A part of the Seminar will simulate an actual event and we'll focus on how to prepare for it and deal with it.
